Hemostatic Patch
HEMOSTATIC PATCH WITH INHERENT ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES OF CHITOSAN
Current hemostatic patches are expensive and are not designed for minimally invasive procedures. LifePatch™ is a lyophilized patch composed of modified chitosan, designed to be used in minimally invasive and open surgical procedures as a hemostatic patch. Consistent with all Life™ Surgical Portfolio formulations, the patch also includes the benefit of having inherent antimicrobial properties of chitosan. [in this application]
LifePatch is undergoing feasibility studies, and has yet to be evaluated by the FDA.
By providing a matrix for platelet adhesion and aggregation, on contact with fluids, Medcura’s hydrophobically modified chitosan lyophilized patch allows for mucoadhesion to wet tissue, creating a barrier that stops bleeding and kills microbes. LifePatch™ is free of fibrinogen and thrombin.*,**
